President Jeyong Yoon of the Korea Environment Institute (KEI) was inaugurated as the twelfth president of KEI in December 2018.

Prior to becoming President of KEI, he was the professor of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Seoul National University. He has been conducting research for the development of environmental policy with the focus on water environment energy convergence technology, resource recovery and desalination technology. He is also one of the leading researchers in appropriate technology and science and technology ODA (Official Development Assistance) serving as the President of the Academic Society for Appropriate Technology and President of the Scientists and Engineers without Borders.

He is currently contributing to sustainable development of Korea serving as a member of the Presidential Advisory Council on Science, the Presidential Committee on Sustainable Development, the National Academy of Engineering of Korea, the International Center for Water Security and Sustainable Management (UNECSCO i-WSSM) and as a board member of the Korea Water Forum.

He initiated the Green New Deal Project in March 2019 while in office which is part of the New Deal for Transformation to achieve sustainable development and the proposals of KEI were adopted in the government policy of the Korean New Deal, announced in May 2020, which also became the foundation for ‘2050 Carbon Neutrality Strategy’ made public in October 2020.

He holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from State University of New York at Buffalo.

Carlos Silva Filho is a Brazilian lawyer spcialising in Administrative & Economic Law, who started working in the waste industry in 1999 as legal advisor at ABRELPE – Brazilian Association of Waste Management Companies, ISWA National Member in Brazil. In 2008 he became ABRELPE’s Executive Director and in 2012 its President. Mr. Silva Filho has been dedicated to developing waste related Regulations, Waste Plans, Communication Strategies and Data research and analysis.
Mr. Silva Filho has been a member of ISWA since 2005. In 2011 he became a member of the ISWA board, was elected Vice-President in 2014 and in 2015 he cofounded and chaired the ISWA Young Professionals Group. In 2020 Mr. Silva Filho has been nominated and elected as ISWA President.

YangKura is an artist from Korea who has been creating works that reflect the staus-quo of the contemporary world by reinterpreting discarded objects or images into a sculptural installation art. Through such a process of reinterpretation, YangKura was quite naturally drawn to the issues of ecology and environment. He presents environmental matters and also seeks solutions to address these issues. His belief brings this forward that cooperation between ecological organizations, science and technology sectors and artists is essential. He actively brings overlapping areas of concerns into his artworks and has shown his works in various countries including Germany, Cambodia and Japan, Taiwan, Abu Dhabi and Austria.

Yong-Chil Seo graduated from Yonsei University and received his Ph. D in Chemical Engineering from Illinois Inst. of Tech. (IIT) with ‘Fluidization for Coal Gasification’. He also published numerous R&D articles in 200 Journal Articles, JMCWM Chief Editor, 100 R&D Projects, Chairing over 10 Int’l Conferences. He has been teaching at Yonsei University, Wonju Campus, Dept. of Environmental & Energy Engineering as a professor, and serving as a Dean of Academic Affairs, Dean of College of Health Science and Graduate School and a Director of BK21 & BK21+ Program, and Waste to Energy Graduate Program since 1994. He has also served as a Chair of WtE Policy & Technology Forum in Korea, Japan National Inst. of Environmental Studies (NIES) Int’l Advisory member, Minamata Convention on Mercury Korea Repres. and Working Group member, Korea Repres. and Asia Vice-Chair, WTERT (Waste to Energy Research & Technology) Council. Prior, he was appointed President of Korea LOHAS Association, President of Korea Society of Waste Management (KSWM), Korea Atomic Energy Res. Inst. (Principal Researcher), Radwaste Treat. & Disposal.

He is currently leading the Energy Environment IT Convergence Group of the Institute for Advanced Engineering, and has been performing waste-to-energy technology development and engineering work since 1994. It has a track record of developing waste resource thermochemical treatment and recycling technology and thermal energy storage technology, and is developing energy saving and greenhouse gas reduction technology through the development of a factory energy management system (FEMS). He obtained a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from Ajou University on the subject of waste resource gasification technology. In addition, he is trying to contribute to the recycling of waste energy and resources by serving as the chairman of the Planning and Information Board of the Korea Society Waste Management, the vice president of the Korean Society of Thermal and Environmental Engineers, and the director of the Korea Association of Waste to Energy Technology.

He joined the Korea District Heating Corporation in 1998 and worked for 23years. He has worked in the business development department, the climate and environment department, and the new growth research department. Working in the business development department, he had tried to increase energy use efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions by expanding and distributing collective energy projects to new residential districts and existing urban areas and utilizing unused heat. While working at the Ministry of Climate and Environment, the Korea District Heating Corporation established countermeasures to reduce greenhouse gases and prepare for the mandatory allocation of greenhouse gas emissions in May and February. In addition, the group energy sector reduction rate was established by participating in the establishment of the 2030 National Greenhouse Gas Reduction Roadmap in December 2016. While working in the new growth research department of the Future Development Institue, a research institute of the Korea District Heating Corporation, various research such as greenhouse gas reduction and waste energy was carried out. Currently, the newly established Green new deal Business Department in March 21 is developing new businesses in the areas of W2H(biogas hydrogenation), renewable energy, heat maps, and 4th generation distirct heating.

Senior researcher Sung-min, Hong is in charge of research and development of eco-friendly PET in Sustainable Technology R&D Division at Basic Chemicals R&D Center of Lotte Chemical. He earned a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in textile polymer engineering at Hanyang University and a doctorate in biochemical engineering at KAIST. As a major experience, He conducted PET recycling pilot project to contribute to the formation of a resource virtuous cycle of Lotte Chemical, and He were in charge of researching recycling PET value chain, selecting manufacturing technology lines, and feasibility research. In addition, He were in charge of reviewing bio PET manufacturing technology, quantifying CO2 reduction effect through LCA evaluation, and obtaining bio certification while promoting bio-based PET resin commercialization of Lotte Chemical. Currently, He is in charge of developing manufacturing technology for commercialization of chemical recycling PET at Basic Chemicals R&D Center of Lotte Chemical.

Director Kim, Jung Hwan has been working for the Ministry of Environment since 2001 and is currently heading the Waste-to-Energy Division.

He is now responsible for waste-to-energy policies and installation of public waste disposal facilities.

Before joining this division, he has held many important posts and assigned to essential tasks for Korea’s climate policy: greenhouse gas-energy target management system, emissions trading scheme, and national greenhouse gas reduction goal while working as the Director for the Greenhouse Gas Management Team, Greenhouse Gas Reduction Research Team and Climate Change Mitigation Division.

He has also served as the Director for the Transportation Environment Division of Ministry of Environment and the Fine Dust Reduction of the Office for Government Policy Coordination, undertaking the tasks on climate, energy, and air environment.

Prof. Seong-kyun Im is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Korea University. Prior to joining Korea University, he was an Assistant Professor at University of Notre Dame and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University in Jan 2013, and stayed at Stanford for one and a half year as a post-doctoral researcher. His research area falls in the realm of reacting flows that include combustion, fire, and plasma-assisted waste plastic conversion/reforming.

Sang Yup Lee is Distinguished Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, KAIST. He is also Vice President for Research, Director of BioProcess Engineering Research Center, and Director of Bioinformatics Research Center. He is fellow of Korean Academy of Science and Technology, National Academy of Engineering Korea, American Academy of Microbiology, American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering, World Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Inventors, American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and Society for Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology. He is currently the only person in the world who is elected as a foreign member of all three most prestigious academies, National Academy of Sciences USA, National Academy of Engineering USA, and Royal Society UK. He has served as a Chairman of the Global Future Council on Biotechnology at World Economic Forum. He received numerous awards including Samson Prime Minister’s Prize, Eni Award, James Bailey Award, Marvin Johnson Award, Korea Best Scientist Award, HoAm Prize, and POSCO TJ Park Prize. His research interests are metabolic engineering, systems and synthetic biology, industrial biotechnology, and healthcare biotechnology that can contribute to improving the sustainability of our world and human health.

Timothy Goodson is an energy analyst at the International Energy Agency working in the World Energy Outlook team. Tim leads the scenario modelling of buildings energy demand in the World Energy Outlook team. Tim has contributed to many of the IEA’s flagship reports, including leading the bioenergy analysis for the IEA’s recently released Net Zero by 2050 Global Roadmap. Tim also has a strong interest in the potential for electrification and demand side-response to facilitate energy transitions. Tim has a Master of International Energy from Sciences Po Paris and Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering and International Studies from Monash University, Australia.

Dr Amardeep Wander is APWC’s Project Director and is an international waste management and marine litter expert. Amardeep has extensive experience providing waste management and policy analysis and provides practical solutions for waste management challenges and control of land and marine sources of plastic litter into the marine environment. Amardeep has extensive experience working with academia, local government and international aid organizations across Australia, the Pacific, the Caribbean, Central America, Africa, and Asia.

Amardeep leads the APWC practice, managing a team of experienced waste management professionals, as well as in-country project teams, to co-create waste management solutions. She has extensive experience in waste data and project management, waste auditing, recycling, technical reporting, and evidence-based policy. Her strengths include strategy and program planning, stakeholder engagement, community consultation and delivering projects on time and within budget.

She has a proven track record of designing programs and projects that allow for valid, robust, and appropriate collection of data whilst keeping the practical realities of waste management in mind. Most recently, Amardeep developed a comprehensive data collection methodology that supports a common approach for waste auditing, endorsed and adopted by World Bank (Regional Recycling Network), SPREP (PacWastePlus), JICA (J-PRISM-II), PRIF (Regional Recycling Network), EU- EDF11, CCOA (Commonwealth Clean Oceans Alliance) and UNE (GEF).

Ms HAN Kyung-Ae was born in Seoul in 1962. After graduating from Sung Kyun Kwan University with a degree in Fashion Design, she entered the fashion industry in 1984 as a designer at Samdo Corporation. Her career at Kolon Industries FnC started in 1995 when she joined the company as head designer of Henry Cotton. Recognized for her contributions to the company, first as head designer then as Creative Director and General Manager of various brands, Ms Han today is Vice President of Kolon FnC, responsible for both the menswear and sportswear businesses of the company. Han’s major achievements include the launch of Series, the first menswear brand to introduce the concept of a multi-labeled store in Korea and which today is one of the top leading and successful casual menswear brands in the local market. The creation of Korea’s first ever upcycling fashion brand, RE;CODE, is another of her notable accomplishments. Following the successful launch of numerous brands, Ms Han was recently named head of Kolon FnC’s biggest brand, Kolon Sports, the leading outdoor brand in Korea with over 47 years of history, in addition to overseeing Epigram, RE;CODE.

Han Kyung Lee is a representative of ECO&Partners Inc. which was established in 2014. I obtained a bachelor’s degree in industrial chemistry from Konkuk University, and obtained MBA from Seogang University. I have worked in the area of environmental policy, strategy, and management consulting for the last 24 years. My major work experiences as follows; currently serving as a private member of 8th, 9th and 10th Presidential Committee on Green Growth (2018-present), s serving as a member of 6th Central Environment Policy Committee of the Ministry of Environment. Major consulting and research experiences are as follows ; managed ASEM eco-innovation consulting and capability enhancement project, Green Export 100 project and establishment of overseas expansion strategy, provided consulting on sustainable product, sustainable companies, and small and mid-sized companies in the field of environment strategy and commercialization for corporates, for the field of sustainable finances, provided consulting on sustainable fund (ESG evaluation), environment responsibility insurance, Green Loan and investment, and establishment of carbon value evaluation model, for the fiel d of policy planning and public support, managed researches on national assignment projects organized by Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport. I also received various awards as follows; Award by the Minister of Environment (Environmental product declaration, 2002), Award by the Minister of Environment(GreenFinance,2012), Award by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport(Green Construction,2013), Award by the Minister of Environment(Integrated environment management,2017)
