Climate Energy Summit Seoul 2022

Overview

Establish policies for 'carbon neutrality‘

The “carbon neutrality” target declaration, which has been a hot potato for last year, continues to this day in more than 140 countries around the world. Major global economies also face economic recovery and carbon neutrality, including “Build Back Better” and “Green Deal,” which focus on increasing inclusiveness, sustainability and resilience to respond to the economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 and climate crisis.

Energy efficiency innovation using digital technology

Now is the time to balance past legacy and future innovation based on scientific data for a feasible 2050 carbon neutrality and decoupling of economic growth. The market for transition and energy efficiency to digital industries, including Tesla and Apple, is expanding, and business convergence is creating new economies and jobs such as virtual power plants, blockchain-based energy platforms, and energy prosumer.

Realization of Green New Deal by Expanding the Energy Efficiency Market

The International Energy Agency (IEA) says improving energy efficiency could cut greenhouse gas emissions by more than 40 percent over the next 20 years, while RE100’s initiative to double energy productivity by 2030 is driving global energy efficiency and supply chain management.

Energy-Digital Convergence for Energy Efficiency

This year, the South Korean government became the 14th country to legislate carbon neutrality. And the new government is making extensive preparations for a more efficient government for ‘digital platform government’. It is time to improve disconnected systems and data to achieve effective green new deals and carbon neutrality that can attract stakeholder engagement. In the transition to achieve global climate goals, the convergence of climate, energy, and digital technology will be another key and opportunity for economic growth and new leadership that connects the Republic of Korea together.
